Jason Weiss has had a professional dance career which has seen him dance in Las Vegas with Bobby Gentry, on the stage at Ceasar’s Palace for the Jerry Lewis Telethon with Carol Lawrence, for the Ford Industrial Corporation for several years and on the big stage with Bill Cosby, Gene Kelley, Lisa Hartman, and many other. His TV credits include Hart To Hart, Oh Madeleine, The David Copperfield Special, Super Stars & Classic Cars, The NBC All Star Hour, Laverne & Shirley, The Nell Carter Special, Mr. Belvedere & The Playboy Video Rock and Roll With The Splitters. Film credits include, Cracking Up with Jerry Lewis, Pennies From Heaven with Steve Martin, SOB with Julie Andrews and Dr. Detroit with Dan Ackroyd. He also performed on the Academy Awards for 4 consecutive years. As an outstanding teacher Jason’s choreography has won such distinguished awards as the Choreographers’ Mid West State Finals, West Coast Choreographers Challenge and overall & high score championships from Showstoppers, Rainbow & Headliners. Now on the professional judging circuit, Jason brings his knowledge of the professional dance world to students across the nation.
Lisa Weiss has been a performer, teacher and choreographer for the past 28 years. During her professional career, she has worked with such notable teachers and dancers as Diane East, Joella Lewis, Peggy Carr, Ken Berry, Gene Nelson and the Nicholas Brothers. In addition to dancing principal roles with the American Festival Ballet for over 7 years, she was the assistant director and choreographer for the Saidi Dance Company and Sunshine Productions for more than 10 years. She has choreographed major productions benefiting such charities as Kids Against Drugs, The Special Olympics, The American Cancer Society, The Parksinson Foundation and the USC Norris Cancer Center, among many others. She holds the RAD Teaching Certificate from the Royal Academy of Ballet and has been on the staff of examiners for 6 years. She was the director and choreographer for America’s National Teenager Scholarship Pageant for 8 years and the choreographer for the Miss Downey and Teen Miss Downey Pageants for 6 years. This past year she re-entered the Pageant World by becoming the Director for the Miss Bell Gardens Pageant as well as the Miss Santa Fe Springs Pageant. Currently in her fifth year as a national judge for several professional dance competitions, she brings her students more insight into the world of competitions and overall professional performance.
Rachael Law graduated From CSULB in 2001with both her BFA and Masters teaching credential in art education. Now in her 9th year as an art teacher at Long Beach’s Poly High School, Rachael also choreographs for “Pop Stars” cheer and dance clinics and “Pro Cheerleading and Dance”. As the daughter of studio owners Jason and Lisa Weiss, Rachael has been dancing and performing since the age of 3. Besides her parents, Rachael has studied with great teachers such as Andy Vaca, Leah Eggert, Jose Salazar, Michael VanPatten, Tim Stevenson & of course her grandmother, Doris Weiss. Rachael continues her dance education at “Defore’s” and “The Edge” in Hollywood, where she studies with the top Hip Hop and Jazz teachers in southern California.
Jenny Lee Stevens graduated from CSULB in 2000 with a BFA in dance with an emphasis in dance education. She has studied dance with such notable teachers as Jackie Sleight, Leann Alduenda, Michael VanPatten, Judy Allen and Andy Vaca. Her gymnastics training comes from both Ms. Kathy Pickle and Willie Avila. She is currently a full time faculty member Cal State Long Beach and Chapman College where she teaches all levels of Jazz and Jazz Performance. As a former member of the national award-winning CSULB dance team and a Clipper girl for over 3 years, Jenny has a solid knowledge of performance skills and current trends in the dance world. You can see Jenny in commercials for Diamond Walnuts, AT&T and Coke Classic (her mother’s favorite) among many others.
Christine Byrne is a fantastic and exciting teacher. She has studied with some of the top teachers in the United States, Canada and Ireland. Having won hundreds of championships, including several world championships in Ireland, Ms. Christine has been a certified Irish teacher for over 17 years. Now in her 12th year of teaching at SFS Dance Center, her dancers have gone on to win National and world titles for the past 8 years as well as local competitions in the Irish Dance World. She also owns & operates her own Irish Dance Studio in Laguna Niguel, Anair Academy of Irish Dance.
Ryannlee Weiss-Davis is an exciting dancer, teacher and choreographer. Having spent all of her life dancing, she continued her dance education after graduating from HBHS in 2004 with a full scholarship to Defore’s Foundation Of The Arts. There she studied with such fantastic teachers as Christine Baltes, Michael Esperanza, Leann Alduenda, Michael VanPatten and Tim Stevenson. Currently she is the Assistant to the Creative Director (Cindy Peca-Dolan) at the Orange County High School Of The Arts and also is a substitute teacher on their facutly as well. Her professional career has seen her dance in Las Vegas and Hollywood with The Young Dubliners, with Chris Baltes and her company for the past 3 years, the 2006 Pro-bowl with the Back Street Boys, Pulse Productions for the past 5 years and so much more. Now working side by side with Cindy Peca Dolan, Ryannlee is now the assistant to the creative director as well as a teacher in the conservatory department at OCHSA.
Jasmin Ramos was a former member of “Kids Unlimited” when it first began in 1983. She studied dance under the direction of Lisa and Jason Weiss for over 12 years and now has returned to share her talents with our younger generation. As a former Miss Santa Fe Springs Princess she is now wonderful mentor to young hispanic women through out Southern California where she coaches them in “Success For Life” seminars. We are very fortunate to have her as part of our teaching staff where she works with our Pre-School and Kindergarten Deparments.
Alida Carmona began her serious ballet training at the "Phyllis Cyr Academy" under the direction of Anthony Sellers, in the late 1970s. She continued her training with the renowned Ballet master, Stephan Wenta, around the same time. All the while performing with the "San Gabriel Valley Ballet", under the direction of Virginia Paulo Lovejoy. Alida began teaching dance in the early 1980s, at various studios in Southern California but this year she has returned home, to the place she began her training, ShowCase Studio (aka...SFS Dance Center). It is such a wonderful delight to have her with us. It's family once again.
Carly Stromen a graduate from Cal State Fullerton returns to our faculty where she teaches our beginning students the art of Tap and Jazz. With years of experience in the teaching field, Carly brings our students a wonderful foundation in the basics of dance. Her energy and love for her students is shown in their love of dance, excellent technique and excitment to dance.
Michael Perez is an outstanding man of dance. Having studied with Jason and Lisa Weiss for over 15 years, Michael received a Full Dance Scholarhip from Chapman University in 2006 and graduated with his BA in Dance and Business in 2010. There he studied from such notable teachers as Leann Alduenda, Chris Baltes, Robin Kish, Larry Rosenberg, Sean Green and Jennifer Backhaus. With his desire to continue his dancing career Michael is now teaching at several studio across southern California as well as at the studio. Michael brings our students the most up to date techniques and learning qualities that are taught in today’s dance world.
Erika Hernandez comes from a dance background that is filled with a resume that would take up several pages. She is a noteable teacher in all forms of dance from Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, Ballet and most importantly Hip Hop. Her training comes from over 15 years of professional work in industry, which includes work on MTV, VH1, commericals, movies and videos. We welcome Erika to our SFS family.
Nicole Luna a former student of SFSDC Nicole continues her studies at Long Beach State in dance and education. She is currently in her 2nd year of teaching in our elementary department where her dancing skills of 15 years is brought to all of her students. Still performing with the studio, Nicole's fun and diverse classes are always filled with exciting and new choreography
Erika Salazar is a welcome addition to our 2010-2011 faculty. Having been a former student for over 11 years, Erika is now in her second year of college and is a member of the national award winning dance team for Fullerton JC. As an excellent acrobat, Erika is now teaching her young students to follow in her foot steps both in acro and jazz classes.
